VIPcare added a new star provider to their clinical family. Meet Dr. Katie McClelland, the new primary care provider for North Port. Dr. McClelland is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician with over 17 years of experience.
She has a deep passion for patient care and is excited to join her new family of patients on their healthcare journey.
Who is Dr. Katie McClelland?
Dr. McClelland, originally from Erie, PA, had her sights set on medicine at a young age. When she was a teenager, she injured her knee while playing soccer. Sadly, this left her on the sidelines and with much disappointment.
Dr. McClelland recalls the attention and compassion that her medical team provided her. “My medical team was a big part of my life when I was suffering from knee pain but also major disappointment from my injury,” she said. “I believe this taught me how to be empathic and listen to the patient. Most patients have more than one thing going on, and this can be overwhelming as a patient.”
It was her team’s compassion and the effect they had on her that encouraged her to go into medicine. “I wanted to be able to make an impact in someone’s life when they really needed help,” she said.
At first, dermatology caught her attention but was soon overshadowed by primary care because of its variety.
“Health is one of my most important values,” she said. “I very much enjoy teaching my patients and giving them knowledge to empower them to take care of themselves.”
Dr. McClelland attended Pennsylvania State University for her undergraduate studies and earned her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then relocated to Pittsburg to complete her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh, where she resided for 17 years practicing medicine.

This past year, Dr. McClelland relocated to Southwest Florida to be closer to her parents. And VIPcare was the perfect place for her to continue practicing medicine.
“VIPcare’s values were in alignment with mine, certainly putting the patient as the most important person in the room,” she said. “I liked VIPcare because of the time they give to physicians to see the patients. It allows a relationship to develop between the patient and doctor. It also allows me to enjoy my job and keep a work-life balance.”
Dr. McClelland believes in practicing what she preaches. In her free time, she loves to exercise and take care of herself. She enjoys doing yoga and pilates in addition to cooking healthy and delicious meals.
